ODD-1

Microsonic Lab

The ODD-1 is a laboratory for sound creation, or a playground, depending on your mood. Developed around an entirely new microsonic processing engine, optimized for a powerful quad-core, 64-bit ARM chip, the ODD-1 supports concurrent granular processing for up to 8 stereo samples at 48 kHz.

Add three-dimensionality, width and movement with spatial audio rendering for each grain.

Use it as a multi-timbral synth, an expressive sampler, a multi-track looper, or a real-time effects processor.

[ OVERVIEW ]

With two fully independent layers, it’s as if you have two sitting side-by-side that can be set up for different use cases. With it’s intuitive, limitless approach to patching, the ODD-1 encourages experimenting right out of the box.

There are resonant filters, distortion, bit crush, compression, delay, reverb, LFOs, envelopes, macro and control signal inputs. Performance-oriented patch banks remember all of your moves and get you set up to easily transition between sounds and functionalities in a moment.

Features:

  • Desktop lab for sound synthesis featuring a one-of-a-kind, limitless patching system.

  • Custom microsonic (aka granular) processing designed for the powerful quad-core ARM A72 CPUs achieves thousands of small pieces of sound (grains) per second with high-quality over-sampling.

  • Create movement and depth with per-grain spatial audio rendering and ear-inspired filtering

  • 18 infinite encoders with integrated switches and LEDs enable a knob-per-function feel in a travel-friendly size, with as much depth as any granular synthesizer on the market.

  • Thoughtfully-designed interactions on the 2.8” capacitive touch screen enable depth without menu diving.

  • 8 simultaneous stereo samples up to 60s at 48kHz.

  • 8-voice polyphony shared across 2 multi-timbral layers.

  • 2 layers can independently behave as a multi-timbral synth, expressive sampler, multi-track looper or real-time effect processor

  • 4 independent playheads per layer with flexible assignment to the 4 samples.

  • Stretch a sound to infinity without losing its natural articulation using our one-of-a-kind, variable-speed Time Path.

  • Patch without limits - Connect 4 LFOs, 3 Envelopes, 4 Macros, 4 Control signals, and any MIDI control to any parameter on the device just by holding it down.

  • MPE capable for expressive control.

  • 4 control signal inputs for connecting modular gear, expression and sustain pedals.

  • Hundreds of amazing factory patches

  • 2GB library of custom samples, created exclusively for the ODD-1 by musicians like Joshua Van Tassel and Lee Clarke

  • 4GB of user storage for samples and patches.

  • Capture new stereo samples from analog input, microphone input or USB audio input.

  • Connect as a USB drive to transfer samples, patches and painless firmware upgrades.

  • Dual stereo filters per-voice with classic resonant filter designs. Can be set in series or parallel.

  • Saturation per-voice and per-layer with distortion, bit crush, and compression.

  • Two echo units per-layer include distortion and filtering in the feedback loop to achieve anywhere from crisp digital delay to warm feedback.

  • Design and achieve your own effects sounds by modulating the core synthesis, filtering, delay elements. Chorus, phasor, flanger, tremolo, tape emulation, and on from there.

  • Custom sample analysis enables unique pitch and timing control modes.

  • Capture the audio of a performance or experimentation session directly on device.

  • Powder-coated aluminum enclosure is as durable as it is beautiful.

  • Companion ODD-1V plug-in with identical sound processing and factory library, for those times when you’ve accidentally left home without your ODD-1.

Hardware Specs:

  • Dimensions: 30.5cm x 11.5cm x 3.8cm (12” x 4.5” x 1.5”)

  • 9-15V power with universal 12V power adaptor provided

  • USB-C audio in/out and MIDI in/out

  • 3.5mm stereo audio in/out

  • 3.5mm TRRS headphone output with microphone input

  • MIDI 2.0 compatible with 3.5mm TRS MIDI in and out, with software-based MIDI thru.

“Really, really clever and well laid out. It's nice when people find ways to make modulation accessible.”

One-of-a-kind Grain Engine

Variable-speed time path with four playheads enables sound design like no other synth on the market today. Pitch and time are fully independent. Grain size, spacing, shape, and stereo placement are easily adjustable with clever ways to randomize parameters. Each sound grain is passed through a binaural spatializer and an optional auditory-inspired bandpass filter.

Modular Experience

Odd-1 is organized in rows, like a modular rack. Every parameter can be modulated, and patch connections are, dare we say, even easier to make than plugging in a cable. Like a big modular synth the experimentation is limitless. In addition to the grain engine there are resonant filters, distortion, bit crush, compression, delay, reverb, LFOs, envelopes, and macro modules to play with.

Vivid Color Touch Screen

The large touch screen supports gorgeous sound visualizations, colorful representations of the grain synthesis process, and helpful plots of modulation sources and effects. Each module includes auxiliary parameters for refined details that are just one touch away. With the screen and modular organization, Odd-1 provides an unparalleled amount of depth without a hint of menu diving.

Stunning, More Than Capable

Odd-1 is so slim and portable that it can fit into any desktop space, performance rig or travel bag. Never be without your modular synthesizer, looping, effects processing friend. And with a quad core, 64-bit ARM processor, you can be sure that it offers some of the most capable processing available, inside of that stunning form.
